The ideal conditions for garage floor epoxy
Most DIY and pro epoxy systems want air and slab temperatures around 60–85°F (many allow 50–90°F), humidity below about 85%, and a slab at least 5°F warmer than the dew point. Temperatures should stay reasonable through the first night so the epoxy can cure.
Note: this forecast uses outdoor conditions. An attached garage is often warmer at night and a concrete slab is often cooler than the air. Check the floor itself with an infrared thermometer before you mix.
Why dew point matters most
The classic spring failure: warm, humid air rolls in after a cold snap, and the still-cold slab "sweats." A film of condensation you can barely see ruins adhesion, and some epoxies develop a greasy blush. If the slab temperature is within 5°F of the dew point, wait.
Test the slab for moisture
Tape an 18×18-inch square of plastic sheet tightly to the floor and leave it for 16–24 hours. If moisture forms under it or the concrete darkens, moisture is coming up through the slab and standard epoxy is likely to peel. Look for a moisture-tolerant primer. Also make sure the floor has been cleaned, degreased, and etched or ground as the kit directs, and that it's fully dry.
Hot weather and cure times
Heat shortens pot life dramatically. At 90°F, a mixed batch can start setting in the bucket well before its labeled working time. Work in smaller batches in the morning. Typical cure times: light foot traffic in about 24 hours, and vehicles after several days to a week. Hot tires can lift epoxy that isn't fully cured, so follow the kit's instructions.

What temperature is too cold to epoxy a garage floor?
Most garage floor epoxies should not be applied below about 50°F, and many prefer 60°F or higher for both air and slab. Cold slows or stops the cure and can leave a soft, tacky finish.
Can I epoxy my garage floor in high humidity?
